Using thick shelled dried gourds, Kerry Mackey creates interesting designs through a variety of colors, techniques and textures.  She uses natural fibers and other materials to complement the piece creating a backdrop of color and textures on the gourd.

“I began working with gourds 5 years after taking a class in gourd design, Kerry says.  “I enjoy taking these often fragile and irregular shaped pieces and creating a design based on the unique shape and condition of the gourd.  In the majority of my work, I use transparent ink dyes to allow the natural mottling of the gourd to show through the techniques that I use on any gourd.”
